Flashback Fridays: TWILIGHT ZONE – NIGHT OF THE MEEK

Ho Ho Ho!  And how has the Holidays been treating you?   I hope it’s been Well.  Or maybe the questions should be… How have you been treating the Holidays?  I picked today’s Flashback Friday  from a famous TV show of the 1960′s that can remind us all of the true Spirit of Christmas – TWILIGHT ZONE: NIGHT OF THE MEEK.

The original TWILIGHT ZONE series, created by Rod Serling, was a true collection of stories that tackled social and political issues in strange but compelling Sci-fi / Fantasy settings.  ’Night of the Meek’ starred Art Carney as a washed out drunk whose only joy was to play Santa Claus for Christmas.  Of course, no matter how lofty your intentions are, when you are a drunk Santa, things tend not to go your way.  Check out the scene and see why:

This was a great reminder of the meaning of Christmas, and a statement against consumerism and selfishness getting out of hand.  Oh, don’t worry, if you get a chance to watch the episode, you will see that ‘Santa’ gets a little surprise of his own.

Until next week, for those of you geeks out there that celebrate, enjoy your holiday and don’t let the all of the commotion spoil things for you this season.

I loved this episode, and I remember it, along with a lot of those early ones, creeping me out. Ed Norton as Santa didn’t help!

Yes, Norton played the most depressing Santa ever. Most of those early episode were creepy and deep at the same time.
