Flashback Friday: THE FOG (1980)

I’m bring you back again to the master of horror from the 80′s with this ghostly pirate revenge movie called THE FOG.  This was the next horror film John Carpenter wrote and directed after HALLOWEEN.  As most horror writers, Carpenter came up with some crazy ideas for films.  This horror classic wasn’t just about any fog, it was about The Fog.  When the clock struck midnight, this eery fog would role into this California fishing town.  And who ever was caught in it ended up dead.  Because in the fog was Ghosts.  Ghosts with fish hooks and cutting knives and other rusty sharp hand tools.  Why were they attacking the town?  Watch the movie and you’ll find out, I don’t want to spoil it.  There’s nothing worse than ghost pirates wanting revenge for something.

As my faithful geek soul brothers and sisters out there may know, I’m a big John Carpenter fan.  His horror films back in the day brought a new style to the genre.  My favorite horror of all time is still the 1982 THE THING with Kurt Russell and Keith David.  But THE FOG is no slouch either as far as Carpenter horror goes.  Adrienne Barbeau is a mom trying to protect her son from getting killed in the fog.  Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred in HALLOWEEN, shows up as a woman traveling through the town but ends up having to deal with the deadly mist.  Janet Leigh is one of the town’s leaders that typically doesn’t want to shut everything down just because of a little bad weather and missing people.

THE FOG was one of the first horror movies I introduced to my daughter years ago.  I think she still loves it as much as I do.  Check it out and let me know what you think about this screen scream by the seashore.
