I teased that this might be SMALLVILLE with a bow, but from the looks of the trailer, ARROW might be pretty good. It’s part of CW’s New Shows coming this Fall. It’s about Oliver Queen, a billionaire who, after 5 years of being stuck on an island, is rescued, and sets out to “creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory.” The show stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, and Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, his love interest. Check out the trailer and tell me if you’re diggin’ it…

Also coming this fall is an even more familiar face from SMALLVILLE. Kristin Kreuk is Detective Catherine Chandler in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. While investigating a murder, clues lead Catherine to Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan), a doctor who was thought to have died in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine finds out why he was hiding from the public. When he gets enraged, he turns into a super strong beast. I guess a mix between The Hulk and a Werewolf. Catherine keeps his secret, because he saved her life as a teenager when she and her mom were attacked and her mother was killed. This is the scene that tells that part of the story.

I plan to check out a few episodes of each of these this fall. But I’m more inclined to watch ARROW. Those bow skills are nice. ARROW will be airing Wednesdays at 8pm (eastern), and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will be coming on Thursdays at 9pm after Vampire Diaries.

The original writer / director of The Blair Witch Project is back with a scary tale about a young woman that sees things nobody else is seeing. But that doesn’t mean she’s wrong. From IMDB:

Newlywed Molly moves into her deceased father’s house in the countryside, where painful memories soon begin to haunt her.

LOVELY MOLLY is a 2011 film by Eduardo Sánchez. Yes, it came out in 2011, but it isn’t hitting the theaters in the US until this weekend (May 18th). You can tell the film had a low budget, but I think Sånchez is at home with low budgets.

It looks like it may have some potential, as far as found-footage movies go. Well, semi-found-footage, from the looks of the trailer. LOVELY MOLLY stars Gretchen Lodge as Molly, Johnny Lewis as her husband Tim and Alexandra Holden as Hannah. Let me know if you check this out, or if you have seen it already.

Today, for this Flashback Friday, I’m going to showcase the various animations of possibly the most animated superhero team ever… THE FANTASTIC FOUR.

Though HANNA-BARBARA produced many superhero animations, this 1967 version of the Fantastic Four gave our super quartet the respect it deserved. As with most of the Hanna Barbara superhero stuff, the animation wasn’t the best. But they gave us some classic FF stories and characters right out of the comics. And as always, Hanna-Barbara had that great jazz score to accompany the animation. Check out the intro:

Oh, but Geek Soul Brother isn’t finished yet. In 1978, Depatie-Freleng Enterprises developed THE NEW FANTASTIC FOUR. Now I was hating on this version as a kid because they got rid of The Human Torch and added a corny robot called H.E.R.B.I.E. I had always heard that they did that because they were afraid kids would start playing with matches and light themselves on fire. But according to this Wiki Page, that was an untrue rumor. The real reason was that the rights of the Human Torch character were tied up with Universal in hopes of making a TV series. I still believe they were nervous about the match thing. Cartoon Censorship had gotten outrageous in those few years. But even though I was hating it, my comic lovin’ kid-brain couldn’t help but watch it during Saturday Mornings. Anyway, check out this trailer:

Now this 1994 FANTASTIC FOUR is a series I didn’t get much of a chance to watch. I was a little too busy raising a family to fully get into my geekness at the time. I have to say though, the intro is making me want to go back watch it, I’m feeling the lyrics. This was part of The Marvel Action Hour.

And Finally, with everything being touched by anime, the re-imagined FANTASTIC FOUR WORLD’S GREATEST HEROES hit television back in 2006. I watched a couple of episodes back then, but they didn’t grab my attention. Maybe I didn’t give it a chance. I guess my love of the FF is too nostalgic.

The Fantastic Four was one of my favorite comics growing up. It’s always cool to see them portrayed on TV or in Movie form. Not many superhero groups had the family dynamics that they did. I hope you get a chance to go back and check out some of the older series. Let me know what you think.

Not bad, not bad. This PROMETHEUS poster shows more of a story than the previous, ominous poster with the stone head half hidden in the shadows. It looks like part of a scene that we see in some of the trailers that have been coming out for the past few months. I think I have to agree with Renn Brown over at chud.com, who commented on the photoshoping in this piece. It’s that mix of realism and a painterly style that can throw you off.

Also, here is a video that also came out a couple of weeks ago. It’s a featurette with Ridley Scott explaining some of the development of the concept of the film. SPOILER ALERT, it does show a little more than some of the trailers.

It looks like Scott and the actors had a great working relationship. I’ve admired Scott’s ability to immerse you in the world of the film he’s making, so I’m looking forward to the feel that this film might have to offer.

The film stars Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce.

PROMETHEUS hits theaters in the US on June 8th. Geek Soul Brother can’t wait to see this sort-of and not-sort-of Alien prequel.

Thanks chudd.com for top pic.

Along with the other networks, ABC is premiering a few new shows this fall. Some comedies, some dramas, some action-adventures, and some fantasy / Sci-fi shows. Of course, Geek Soul Brother is interested in the fantasy Sci-fi stuff, and action doesn’t hurt.

First up on the slate is a drama set in a swank apartment building – The Drake. It’s owner Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn) and his wife Olivia (Vanessa Williams) take care of their tenants, giving them their hearts desire. But they can’t do the daily managing and still reap souls as payment from the tenets, so they hire Jane Van Veen and Henry Martin, played by Rachael Taylor and Dave Annable. It seems like a dream job, but any dream can turn into a nightmare.

An ensemble cast, each in their own apartment or life situations, makes this anti- Fantasy Island show a little on the interesting side According to the show page, 666 Park Avenue is based on a book series by Gabriella Pierce. It was written by David Wilcox (Fringe, Life on Mars).

Disney XD is giving us TRON fans a treat. TRON UPRISING is coming to TV June 7th. But guess what? I just watched the first teaser episode on their Youtube channel. And you can too…

I am feeling the flat, stylish graphics. It reminds me of that Aeon Flux style of movement (the animated series, not the movie… please). The designs are on point, and the music by Joseph Trapanese is just as rich as Tron Legacy. And I don’t know if this is going to be the cast for the entire series, but what a cast this is. Elijah Wood is the voice of Beck, and Tron is voiced by the original Bruce Boxleitner. Other great talents include Lance Henriksen, Paul Reubens, Reginald VelJohnson and Tricia Helfer as the Voice of The Grid. if you already watched the episode, you can see it’s mostly a character introduction piece. But I see this as having some good potential if they have great stories combined with the cool graphics. I’ll be watching this one on the regular I think.

It’s bad enough to have serial killers running around, but when you have one notorious killer bringing others together to form a cult, you have a whole new kind of evil. That’s part of the story that constitutes THE FOLLOWING. Here is part of the Show Page from Fox:

When notorious serial killer JOE CARROLL (James Purefoy, “Rome”) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent RYAN HARDY (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, “X-Men: First Class,” “Frost/Nixon”) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature.

I like Kevin Bacon. I really appreciated his role of Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class, and I enjoyed his previous works. I’m curious how he will play the lead role is this show. It isn’t Sci-fi or Fantasy, but I find it interesting. Check out the trailer (reload page if it’s not showing up):

What do you think? I find the setup pretty compelling. The cult thing. Bacon’s character Hardy sleeping with Carroll’s wife. Other serial killers popping up. There is a lot there. I don’t know if The Following will connect with audiences, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be boring.

The show is created, written and executive-produced by Kevin Williamson (“Vampire Diaries”, “Scream”) and is also produced by Marcos Siega (“Dexter”, “Vampire Diaries”). It stars Kevin Bacon as Ryan Hardy, James Purefoy as Joe Carroll and Natalie Zea as Claire Matthews. You can check out the Show’s Page Here.

THE FOLLOWING premieres this fall along with the rest of the New Fox lineup.
