Only eight more episodes of EUREKA are left this finale season. TV Guide says the show will end on July 16th. Geek Soul Brother is going to miss Sheriff Carter, Henry, Fargo and the rest of the gang. I had fallen off for a few episodes back in the fall, but I got caught up on it. The episode ‘Jack of All Trades’ aired a couple weeks ago. I really enjoyed seeing Colin Ferguson acting like his fellow co-stars who play Fargo, Zane, and Allison. They all had to emulate his Jack Carter character also, but Ferguson nailed all the little characterizations the others do when playing their roles. The show has definitely maintained that special blend of quirky, comedic, mystery and Sci-Fi that the fans have enjoyed for the past six years. It’s also cool that Felicia Day is starring in this last season. If you’re not familiar with Eureka, it’s about a Sheriff Jack Carter that maintains order in a secret town full of geniuses that do ultra advanced experiments, most of the time to their own hurt. It’s light-hearted and fun, and for the science nerd, it’s got some interesting scientific scenarios happening. It stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Erica Cerra and Joe Morton.
Thought I’ll be sad to see Eureka end, I’ll only have to wait one week before another show comes back that I’ve truly enjoyed. ALPHAS comes back for its second season on July 23rd along with the fourth season of WAREHOUSE 13. ALPHAS is about a group of humans with enhanced abilities that help to keep other enhanced humans from misusing their abilities. It’s sort of like X-Men, but I would define it more like what HEROES should have evolved into. One thing that’s cool is that the powers aren’t out of this world. I haven’t seen anybody make fire out of thin air, or manipulate gravity. The abilities of the Alphas center more on slight mutations of the brain and body. Malik Yoba plays a former FBI agent that has enhanced adrenalin and gains moments of super strength. Warren Christie‘s character has incredible dexterity and hand-eye coordination, when he’s not stressed out about it. David Strathairn plays the doctor that brings them all together and tries to mentor them, and protect them from ‘the powers that be’ that would take advantage of such people. Again, if you liked Heroes, you might get into this show. It has some interesting subplots that keep you curious.
I fell off of WAREHOUSE 13. It’s not a bad show, though some think so. I think it focuses more on the steam-punk, Tessler invention crowd that likes something fun to watch. Two secret service agents have been given the assignments of retrieving objects that have a sort of psychic or bio-energy that, when the objects are used, they let people do strange and even miraculous things. But the object tend to turn the people into murderers with their bad juju. It’s on the same comedy mystery thing as Eureka, just a little more silly. Maybe I’ll check a couple episodes and see if it pulls me in again. Warehouse stars Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, Genelle Williams, CCH Pounder and Allison Scagliotti.
Look for all these shows on SYFY Channel’s Powerful Mondays lineup.
