Fall 2013 Sci-Fi, Fantasy TV Shows – FOX’s SLEEPY HOLLOW, ALMOST HUMAN

More Science Fiction and Fantasy shows are coming this fall and in 2014.  The FOX network is doing their share by bringing two shows to us that are heavy in the genre.

Sleepy Hollow Cast

From Fox’s website:

In this modern day twist of Washington Irving’s classic, ICHABOD CRANE (Tom Mison, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to unravel a mystery that dates all the way back to the founding fathers. Revived alongside Ichabod is the infamous Headless Horseman who is on a murderous rampage in present-day Sleepy Hollow. Bound to the Headless Horseman by a blood spell cast on the battlefield of the American Revolution, Ichabod quickly realizes that stopping Headless is just the beginning, as the resurrected rider is but the first of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

I’m thinking that this series will delve into a much bigger story than people are initially thinking.  I mean, we’re talking witches, conspiracies with the founding fathers, and the coming of the Four Horsemen.  That’s a nice twist on the role of the Headless horseman.  You can’t say Kurtzman and Orci don’t give people some interesting Sci-fi / fantasy most of the time. Plus, Orlando Jones and the adorable Nicole Beharie are starring.

Almost Human Cast

From Fox’s website

Starring Karl Urban ( the “Star Trek” and “The Lord of the Rings” franchises”) and Golden Globe Award nominee Michael Ealy (“Sleeper Cell,” “Common Law”), the new series is an action-packed police procedural set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.

Carl Urban won me over with his portrayal of Leanord “Bones” McCoy in the new Star Trek and his role as Judge Dredd in DREDD. And Michael Ealy has always been a great actor in the emotional characters that he usually plays. With obviously good acting, and the creative direction of the same guys that brought us FRINGE, this show definitely has potential to be something.  Especially if they bring other Scifi elements into the mix besides artificial intelligence.

Cosmos Banner 2014

COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey, a 13-part docu-series debuting in 2014

I really like Neal DeGrasse Tyson! He’s a great representation for astronomy and astrophysics.  And I must say that I loved the original 1980 COSMOS with Carl Sagan, which sparked my love of astronomy even more than it was.  Space-Time Odyssey might not do the same thing, but I have a feeling it will be an interesting show.

DADS – Series Premiere TUE. SEPT 17

Not a Scifi or Fantasy, but it has a geek icons that’s all too familiar with the genre. Geek titan Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi are best friends whose broke dads (Martin Mull and Peter Reigert) move in… and have no plans to move out.
