Flashback Friday: DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS

Since the last Flashback Friday featured a killer tree stump, let’s flashback to another classic horror movie that has some killer vegetation.  The 1962 thriller THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS.

First there was a colorful meteor shower all over the world – ‘Oohh, look at the pretty lights.’  But then you wake up the next day and find out you are blind.  In fact, most of the world is blind. That’s when the Triffids come and get you.  Walking (more like crawling) killer plants that suck you in and eat you alive.  Only a few sight-seeing survivors are able to fight off the oversized, carnivorous garden creepers.  See what you can get out of this horrible trailer:

I haven’t seen this movie since I was a wee lad with a wee afro.  Even though I remember how ridiculous it seemed, it was fun to watch people (blind people) running from slow moving trees.  I was a kid with a dark sense of humor.  I didn’t know it was based on a book by writer John Wyndham.  If you have seen this film, let Geek Soul Brother know if you had as much fun as a kid watching it as I did.

Oh, and there was a 2009 BBC-TV mini-series of the story also called THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS.  I haven’t seen it, but I’m adding it to the queue.  Enjoy.
