It’s a new year! And what better way to start things off then to watch our favorite TV shows return, and some new premieres (American Shows at least).
There are a few this week that I might check out. But truthfully, I would hate to start watching some of them in the middle of the seasons.
Lighting up the screens tonight are the full CBS comedy line-up, which ironically ends with Hawaii 5-o at 10pm. Tuesday brings back the usual stuff, but there are a couple new ones on the block. WORK IT reminds me of an OLD 1980′s show called Bosom Buddies (Tom Hanks got his start, but what happened to the other guy).
I am looking forward to catching MODERN FAMILY’S premiere this Wednesday. I don’t watch all of ABC’s comedies, but MF does make a brother laugh.
Thursday will be a little more my speed with things like VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE CIRCLE. VampD is for a younger audience than myself, but my son says I might like it. I’ll give it a whirl, though TRUEBLOOD fills that craving for fang action. Embarrassingly, I will probably do my usual ‘Flipping of the Channels’ and end up watching WIPEOUT (again).
Friday looks even better for a geek, with the season premieres of SUPERNATURAL and MERLIN (SYFY). I peeped at a couple of SUPERNATURAL episodes in the past (so I’m not a total loser), but I really must start with season 1 this year. Still, Friday’s episode could pull me in, even though I’m sure it is in the middle of a story arch. MERLIN (or medieval SMALLVILLE as I call it) is a decent series from across the pond. I caught the first season and found it entertaining. But again, its shooting for a much younger crowd. A GIFTED MAN and NIKITA make their grand return also, but neither of these has drawn me in so far. IFC has PORTLANDIA returning, and the new THE INCREASINGLY POOR DECISIONS OF TODD MARGERET. Though I should be a bigger fan of IFC (being that I love quirky TV and such), it’s programming has really slipped under my radar. But that’s going to change with PORTLANDIA doing a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA episode next week. You have won me over IFC.
Saturday looks kind of weak (as usual), but Sunday is stuffed like a Cannoli. The number one show for me is ONCE UPON A TIME. I don’t know why, but I’m starting to have a little crush on the Evil Queen/Mayor of Storyville. I’m troubled obviously, and plan to see a professional about this. But until then, I’ll be sitting in front of the TV at 8pm that day.
Other Sunday treats are FOX’s animation line-up, but I’ll leave those to all you Simpson and Family Guy/Cleveland lovers out there. Also, PAN AM returns (though I don’t know why) and a couple new premiere debut – HOUSE OF LIES (SHOWTIME) and THE FIRM (NBC). I really like DON CHEADLE, but alas, I don’t have Showtime. Maybe it’s time to invest.
That’s my picks for this week. Number one on my watch list for this month is still FRINGE. That will get its own special Geek Soul Brother love.
SmallscreenSadie put me onto a complete list at cliqueclack.com, so anything I missed you can check for there. Will update you on next week’s cache.

I might watch Work It just so I can see for myself how horrible it is. The characters do totally look like Bosom Buddies! The other guy was Peter Scolari, by the way. I wanted to marry him…
Thanks for the shout-out!

“Sherlock” series 2 – believe!
I’m also looking forward to “Alcatraz” when it hits the UK, as I love JJ Abrams’ shows traditionally and I’m eagerly tapping my fingers in impatience for some “Doctor Who” at the end of 2012.
I recommend “Supernatural” to you too, but on the proviso that it gets much better as it goes along – the first season is a bit hit and miss and there’s a lot of monster-of-the-week/rip-off a horror movie stuff going on, but it gets a lot better.

Alcatraz looks pretty good, so that will be moving to the watch list. My wife checked out Sherlock and really loved it. I’m not too big on the mystery stuff, but Luthor was awesome. In fact, let me just state that most all English Mysteries are great.
My friend has been trying to get me to watch Supernatural since the beginning. I have a few past series that I intend on catching up to this year. Super is one of them (and half of Doctor Who). Probably take a couple weeks to fit it into the rest of the show watching I do. Thanks for the tips man.
